‘My actions don’t meet Australian cricket captain’s standards’: Tim Paine after relinquishing captaincy Watch

Tim Paine on Friday resigned as Australia’s Test captain after his involvement in the sexting scandal. Paine took a tough decision ahead of the upcoming Ashes 2021/22. The former Australia captain also issued a statement on Friday after stepping down and apologized for his actions that have hurt his family and others.

Paine claimed that it was the right thing to step down to save the team from any untoward disruption ahead of the Ashes series.

The clip from the press conference went viral, where he admitted that his action did not live up to the standards of the Australian captain.

“On reflection, my actions in 2017 do not meet the standard of an Australian cricket captain or the wider community. I am deeply sorry for the hurt and pain I have caused to my wife, my family and the other side,” Penn said at the press conference.

“I am sorry for the damage this has caused to the reputation of our sport. And I believe it is the right decision for me with immediate effect as captain. I don’t want this to happen from a big Ashes series.” First let’s be an unwanted disruption to the team. I love my role as the captain of the Australian cricket team. Leading the Australian men’s Test team has been the greatest privilege of my sporting life.”

Paine sent a “d*** picture” and a series of lewd messages to a former Cricket Tasmania employee on the eve of the 2017–18 Ashes series, according to Fox Cricket.

Premier pacer Pat Cummins is expected to lead the Australian Test team for the upcoming Ashes Test series. However, Paine is expected to continue as a wicket-keeper batsman for this mega-series.

“To the Australian cricket fans – deeply sorry that my past behavior affected our game on the eve of the Ashes. I apologize for the disappointment caused to the fans and the entire cricket community. I am a wonderful, loving and I’ve got a supportive family, and it breaks my heart to know how much I’ve let them down. They’ve always stood by me, been my most loyal admirer, and I’m indebted to them for their support.”

“I will continue to be a committed member of the Australian cricket team and look forward to what will be the big Ashes tour,” Paine said.

The wicket-keeper batsman took charge of the Australian team in 2018 after Steve Smith was stripped of the captaincy following the infamous ball-tampering scandal.
