Steel Minister directs CPSEs to increase their capital expenditure

Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh has directed steel CPSEs to speed up their Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and streamline procedures for timely completion of projects, the Steel Ministry said in a statement.

Steel CPSEs – In capex review meeting held with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), National Mineral Development Limited (NMDC), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) and Manganese Ore (India) Limited (MoIL), the Minister stressed on the importance of capital expenditure in steel infrastructure construction to promote high and sustainable growth in the post-pandemic period.

“During a detailed review of the projects under implementation, the Union Minister emphasized the importance of capital expenditure in steel infrastructure construction to promote high and sustainable growth in the post-pandemic period,” the release said.

Meanwhile, the Minister also reviewed the land issues of Integrated Steel Plants of SAIL and other Steel CPSEs. The Minister examined various issues relating to land available with the Steel CPSEs. These included land available for future projects/expansion of plants and mines, land under encroachment, freehold or leasehold status, land use etc.

The Minister asked the Steel CPSEs to expedite the action for removal of encroachments so that the Steel CPSEs can take advantage of the land and quarters.

He further asked them to ensure that the unmutated land in the plants is immediately converted in the name of CPSE in consultation with the concerned departments of the State Governments.

Singh emphasized that all land records of steel CPSEs should be digital and should be kept in safe custody. He highlighted the importance of judicious use of all the land available with the CPSEs for future needs.

Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State Pradeep Kumar Tripathi, Secretary Steel, besides Chief Managing Directors (CMDs) of all CPSEs of SAIL were also present in the meeting.
