Amidst speculation about Congress MLA R Akhand Srinivasa Murthy resigning as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly after being denied a party ticket, BJP leader Tejashwi Surya on Monday held an interview with CNN-News18 The interview alleged that “a nexus between the Congress and the SDPI” was behind Muthi’s decision and claimed that being secular in the Congress is not enough, as one must also take an “anti-Hindu” stance.

Congress MLA R Akhand Srinivasa Murthy, representing Pulakeshi Nagar assembly constituency, went to Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district and submitted his resignation to Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri on Sunday.

Speaking to CNN-News18, the Bengaluru South MP said, “In Congress, being secular is not enough, you have to be anti-Hindu.”

According to Surya, Srinivasa Murthy was denied a ticket ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections, despite winning the last election with a huge margin of 18,000 votes.

He also accused possible allies SDPI and Congress of being behind the denial of ticket to Murthy ahead of the state assembly polls.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister of State Shobha Karnadlaje alleged that as Chief Minister of the Congress government, Siddaramaiah helped Popular Front of India (PFI) and Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) by filing ‘B reports’ on cases . against him, and released him from jail, for engaging in “politics of accommodation” with the SDPI and catering to the interests of a specific community.

Murthy told reporters on Sunday that he had resigned from his post in the Assembly and not from the Congress. He further stated that he plans to consult with his supporters to determine his next steps.

Murthy, who was a victim of the DJ Halli and KG Halli violence in August 2020, in which his house was completely gutted, said people continued to live with him like family even after the incident.

He alleged that those who were arrested in connection with the violence and later released were responsible for denying him party tickets.

Murthy’s resignation from the state assembly has fueled speculation that he may join the BJP.
