Australia registered a thrilling two-wicket win in the first match to take a crucial 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series. For the first time, the Australian team chased a target of over 267 in ODIs against Sri Lanka.
Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a superb score of 300/7 in 50 overs. In the rain-interrupted match, the target was eventually revised and the visitors were asked to chase down 282 runs in 44 overs. Maxwell’s unbeaten 80 off 51 balls helped the Aussies reach the target with nine balls to spare.
