Horrible! People of Nagaland torture and kill the endangered Great Indian Hornbill

Kohima (Nagaland): A disturbing video has surfaced in which locals can be seen killing the Great Indian Hornbill in Nagaland’s Wokha district. According to news reports, the Nagaland police arrested three people under the Wildlife and Arms Act for torturing and killing the bird. With increasing urbanization and climate change, many species of birds and animals have seen a decline in their populations and the Great Indian Hornbill is also an endangered species. The video of the ruthless killing of the bird shocked netizens and created massive outrage.

In the horrifying video, a man can be seen thrashing the hornbill with a stick and stamping the bird’s neck. The video was shared by social media handle @dcexpeditions on Instagram and captioned: “What a horrifying video. Such a beautiful bird, Endangered and Wildlife Protection Act Schedule 1 species, being tortured and lynched!!! The state that celebrates the Hornbill Festival.”

The video shocked and shocked the internet and drew sharp criticism from netizens and animal rights activists. The wildlife department team is conducting further investigation and the weapon used has been confiscated, while parts of the hornbill have been recovered. The Great Indian Hornbill has been listed on the IUCN Red List since 2018 and is classified as vulnerable.
