Sri Lanka posted a mammoth 323/6 in the second ODI against Afghanistan after Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat. Afghanistan had won the first match but the Lanka Lions, led by Kusal Mendis, responded strongly. The middle-order batsman scored a 75-ball 78 while Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne and Sadeera Samarawickrama also played useful innings.

With Sri Lanka and Afghanistan set to face off in the second ODI of the three-match series in Hambantota on Sunday, June 4, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first. Lanka Lions started well and after five overs the score was 27/0. Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka looked to give Sri Lanka a strong start to level the ODI series after losing the previous game.

Sri Lanka is set to lock horns with Afghanistan for the second ODI of the series between the two Asian powerhouses. After losing the previous game, Lanka Lions would be looking to bounce back while Afghanistan would be looking to wrap up the 3-match series with a win.

The second ODI will be played on Sunday, June 4 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat against the visiting team.

Shanaka meanwhile made four changes to the side that faced defeat last time around, Angelo Mathews, Mathisha Pathirana, Dushan Hemantha, Lahiru Kumara all sat out while Sadera Samarawickrama, Mahesh Thikshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera came in.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, are playing with the same combination that helped them win.

Hashmatullah Shahidi’s men have taken a 1-0 lead in the series, with a must-win today if the Sri Lankan Lions are to save the series. In the previous match on Friday, June 2, Afghanistan won the match by 6 wickets with 19 balls to spare.

It was an impressive performance from the Afghan side as they chased down the required 269, riding on a player-of-the-match performance from Ibrahim Zadran. Zadran scored a 98-ball 98, narrowly missing out on a worthy century.

He helped Afghanistan consolidate after Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed for 14.

Rehman Shah also hit a half-century, while skipper Shahidi himself scored a 47-ball 38. Mohammad Nabi led the team to victory by playing a flamboyant inning of 27 runs in 28 balls.

Earlier, Pathum Nissanka got Sri Lanka off to a steady start but their middle-order collapsed before Charith Aslanka hit a brilliant 91 off 95 balls. He joined hands with Dhananjaya de Silva who scored a half-century and this allowed the hosts to reach a score of 268 in 50 overs.
