One of Anupam Tripathi’s first South Korean projects has an interesting connection with Salman Khan.

Anupam Tripathi may be making his Bollywood debut this month, but he already has a connection with one of the biggest stars in the industry, Salman Khan. Anupam began his acting career in 2016, and one of his first credited roles was in the South Korean film An Ode to My Father. Coincidentally, this film was remade in Hindi as Bharat in 2019, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, we asked Anupam if he had watched the remake. The IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack star confirmed he had and shared his thoughts on the film.

“I watched Bharat, and Ode to My Father is the original. Bharat has its own beauty; it was made in an Indianised way, and one should watch it with that perspective. It was interesting to watch,” Anupam told us. He added that he would love to work with Salman Khan someday and mentioned that he would be open to starring in a film in the comedy genre, similar to Kick or Ready.

Besides discussing Bharat, Anupam also spoke with us about Shah Rukh Khan. He revealed that he shares his birthday with SRK. “We share the same birthday. There’s so much to learn from him—about life, acting, and work. If you listen to his speeches and apply them to your life, you can improve so much. He’s a person who urges you to dream,” Anupam said.

Talking about IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Anupam shared that he received a call to audition for a role in the series back in March 2023, and it took the team only one day to confirm his casting. “My audition happened on March 31, 2023. I got a call from Mukesh Chhabra’s office asking if I could audition for a role. I spent the whole night preparing, and around 3 or 4 am, I sent the audition recording. The next day, I got a call from Mukesh Chhabra saying, ‘We are locking you in for the career-defining role.’ I met him personally as well—he’s a very beautiful human being,” Anupam shared. “After the audition was cleared, I was relieved that I had crossed the first hurdle. The next step was to get the script, read it, and prepare for the role,” he added.

Set to release on Netflix this month, the series is based on the harrowing events surrounding the hijacking of the IC 814 aircraft, which took off from Kathmandu and was headed to New Delhi. The flight was hijacked, and the passengers were held under the control of the hijackers for seven days. The plane traveled through multiple airbases before it was stationed in Kandahar, where Indian officials negotiated for the passengers’ release. Anupam plays a vital role in the series.

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack will stream on Netflix starting August 29.
