Sonakshi Sinha shares how her parents, Shatrughan and Poonam Sinha, reacted to her marriage with Zaheer Iqbal, revealing their wholehearted support and happiness.
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s wedding took everyone by surprise in June, especially since the couple had never publicly confirmed their relationship. While wedding festivities surfaced online, rumors also circulated that Sonakshi’s family, including her father Shatrughan Sinha and her brothers Luv and Kush, were not happy with the marriage. However, Sonakshi’s parents were present at the wedding ceremony and reception, dispelling the speculation.
In a recent interview with Zoom, Sonakshi opened up about her family’s reaction to her decision to marry Zaheer. She shared that her father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, was fully supportive. “All friends and family knew about our relationship for years,” Sonakshi revealed, adding, “My dad was very happy. He said, ‘Jab miya biwi raazi toh kya karega kaazi?’” (If the couple is ready to get married, who can stop them?). Sonakshi also mentioned that her father and Zaheer had met multiple times before the wedding and had developed a fond relationship. She noted that their birthdays are just a day apart—Shatrughan’s on December 9 and Zaheer’s on December 10, which helped create a bond between them.
Zaheer expressed his admiration for Shatrughan, stating, “I am in awe of him and his intelligence. The knowledge he has is incredible. Just sitting with him for an hour or two feels like attending a university.”
Sonakshi also shared her mother Poonam Sinha’s reaction, explaining that her mom was the first person she confided in about the relationship. “My mom knew him well. She herself had a love marriage, so she understands.”
After seven years together, Sonakshi and Zaheer had a registered marriage on June 23 at her home in Mumbai, followed by a grand reception attended by stars like Salman Khan, Huma Qureshi, Rekha, and Kajol.
