‘Spitting on Mirror’: Producer Vinod Kumar’s answer to those who questioned Valimai’s earnings

For the third week in a row, Ajith Kumar’s Valimai still continues to do well in theatres. Apart from winning the Indian market, the film is doing remarkably well elsewhere as well. The action flick is fast approaching Rs 250 crore at the box office. Despite the conflicting reviews, the picture continues to attract a large number of theatres. However, there have also been reports that the film could not do as well as it seems. Producer Vinod Kumar has now reacted to this criticism.

A well-known film journalist recently shared a video between the budget and collection of the film. He added that the film could not make it to the break even in locations outside Chennai, Chengalpattu, Madurai and Coimbatore. He further said that the producer who spent more than Rs 112 crore on the film hardly got Rs 25 crore in return. He also said that the picture failed to make a mark at other places. This caused a lot of commotion in the industry.

Responding to the critic’s comment, Vinod said, “Even though the film ‘Maran’ Anti-Indian’ did not cross the 50 lakh gross collection, the entire critics collectively supported the film, but the film’s (Valimai) did not. Made a joke which collected more than 65 cr. Share is like spitting on mirror.

According to trade expert Ramesh Bala, Valimai raised Rs 50 crore in the overseas market. The film earned Rs 1.16 crore in Australia and Rs 1.39 crore in the United Kingdom in its third week.

Valimai was recently embroiled in another case. The Ajith-starrer was earlier compared to another Tamil film, Metro as they both deal with the same story. Jaya Krishnan, who backed the 2016 Tamil film Metro under JK Creations, recently filed a complaint in the Chennai High Court against Valimai director H Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor, stating that the Ajith-starrer The narrative and characters were stripped of their subway.

Meanwhile, H Vinoth wrote and directed Valimai, which is a full-fledged action entertainer. Apart from Ajith, the film also stars Kartikeya Gummakonda and Huma Qureshi in pivotal roles. After Valimai, Ajith, H Vinoth and Boney Kapoor will collaborate in their third film. Named AK 61, the film is all set to start production in a few weeks.
