The group of 50 young gunners will be equipped with all the latest and highly sophisticated weapons and machines for day and night operations.

The commandos have undergone months of training in operations in urban areas, especially in metropolitan cities that are overcrowded. They have also been trained to have low vision at night. Sources said the team has received special training to deal with situations in high-rise buildings.

The team will be equipped with MP-5 submachine gun, sniper rifle, light machine gun, AK-47, corner shot (a weapons accessory) and barrel grenade launcher among other weapons. The team will also have night vision goggles, radar, in-wall scanner and robots equipped with weapons for day and night operations.

The Delhi QAT team comprises commandos who have won the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) for eliminating terrorists and Naxalites in the operation, including commanders of terror outfits like JeM and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Speaking to News18.com, a top-level official with knowledge of the development explained the idea behind increasing the QAT for the national capital, which already has multiple agencies including the National Security Guard (NSG). .

“The commandos who have been selected have first-hand experience of dealing with terrorists and Naxalites. These commandos have served in Kashmir and Chhattisgarh, and are experts in dealing with terror situations, hostage situations, encounters, handling of IEDs in urban and jungle areas, etc. Each one of them is enough to deal with a group of terrorists. This team has been deployed for CRPF but will work as per government orders in case of any attack.

When asked about the functioning and deployment of the commandos, the official told News18.com that the team will have a base camp in Delhi, close to important installations like the Parliament complex. The official said that on the occasion of Republic Day, two teams of the team will be deployed at different places.

“The team will camp in the heart of the national capital so that in case of any kind of attack, they can reach within minutes and manage the situation,” the official said.

“CRPF also gives security to VVIPs and protects Parliament. This team will act as first aid for them in case of any terror attack.”

Sources said the idea of ​​QAT in the national capital was suggested by Zulfiqar Hasan, who is serving as Special Director General in CRPF. Hassan has served in Jammu and Kashmir and has picked up a handful of officers and commandos from the Valley QAT for the Delhi team.

The CRPF’s Ghati QAT and COBRA are the most decorated wings in all the Central Armed Forces and receive the highest number of gallantry medals every year. The officers and jawans of these wings have also been awarded Shaurya and Kirti Chakras for their bravery.

The Valley was prepared to act effectively on QAT intelligence and to act quickly during any terror situation. The team provides additional support to the entire security setup. The jawans of this team shoot to shoot and are adept at handling arms and ammunition.
