SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has indicated that their Starlink satellite broadband service may be coming to India soon. Responding to a Twitter user’s query about when the Starlink broadband service will be rolled out in the country, Musk said the company is awaiting regulatory approval to flag off Starlink broadband internet. To recall, as per previous reports, SpaceX Starlink satellite broadband is set to be available in India sometime next year.

“Dear Elon, when are you launching Starlink services in India..? We and our existing customers are looking forward to wireless internet services,” a Twitter user who goes by the name TryOnset on Twitter asked Musk, adding that the service will be available in India. When will I start Musk responded by saying, “Just figuring out the regulatory approval process.” Earlier, Starlink President Gwynne Shotwell said that SpaceX has deployed around 1,800 Starlink satellites and once they reach their operational orbit, Starlink will have global coverage by September 2021. However, he added that the company has regulatory functions to go to every country and get approval to provide telecom services. It is reported that the DoT has allowed Starlink to apply for the necessary licenses before offering any service in India.

The Ookla data for Starlink broadband speeds comes at a time when the company has crossed 90,000 subscribers globally. In the US, Speedtest Intelligence numbers indicate that Starlink satellite broadband offers an average of 97.23 Mbps download speed and 13.89 Mbps upload speed. The average speed of wired broadband in the US is around 115.22 Mbps for downloads and 17.18 Mbps for uploads.
