SP workers accuse police, administration of ‘harassing’ party leaders. Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: Leaders of the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday accused the local police and administration of harassing party candidates, their proponents and supporters and forcing them to withdraw their nominations.
A delegation of party leaders and workers also met the election observers and demanded free and fair block chief elections in 23 blocks of the district.
SP district president Yogesh Chandra Yadav alleged, “BJP people have forcibly captured the certificates of majority Kshetra Panchayat members and these panchayat members are being forced to vote in favor of BJP candidates.”
He further demanded that the Election Commission (EC) should allow Aadhaar card as an alternative to Kshetra Panchayat members for identification for free and fair elections. He said that Panchayat members should be allowed to cast their votes by showing Aadhar card.
Meanwhile, Yadav alleged that the police and the local administration were harassing party candidates, their proposers and supporters at the behest of the state government and forcing them to withdraw their nominations on Friday.
He also alleged that a team of Soraon police picked up several party leaders including the husband of the party candidate on Thursday night and brought them to the police station without any reason. They were forcibly stopped at the police station overnight and were challaned and released on Friday morning. .
Similarly, Shankargarh police has also forced the proposer of the party candidate to stay in the police station overnight. The SP leaders demanded that adequate police force should be deployed in Shringverpur block, with the claim that the BJP candidate from the same block was an influential person and his presence could influence voters.
Meanwhile, SP candidate Indranath Mishra was declared the winner for the block chief of Kaudhiara block. On Friday, senior police and administrative officers reviewed the security arrangements in the offices of the Block Development Offices of 22 blocks. Additional police force has been deployed to maintain law and order.
