Southern Mysore to get water from Kapila. Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysuru: Residents of southern parts of Mysore will soon get drinking water from Kapila River. Urban Development Minister Byrathi Basavaraj The Rs 150 crore project proposed by the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board on Friday gave its nod.
During the meeting held at MUDA, KUWSDB proposed to increase the Kabini Bulk Water Supply Scheme from 60 MLD to 180 MLD for Phase II work with an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.
KUWSDB Assistant Executive Engineer Asif informed that drinking water will be supplied to MCC through the scheme and the layout and private layout developed by MUDA.
The project will provide drinking water Kuvempu Nagar, Hosahundi, Kalalwadi, Dhangalli, Extended Vijayanagar Phase IV, Dattagalli, Bogadi, BEML Layout Phase II, Dipanagar, kergali and other areas. At present, 66 MLD is being withdrawn from Kabini in which there is a shortfall of 120 MLD. This project will meet the shortage of drinking water supply.
“As per the survey on population and water demand in Muda command area, Kabini command area is 122.90 square kilometer with 58 population per hectare. The population will be 6.76 lakh by 2023, 10.07 lakh by 2038 and 14.86 lakh by 2053. The demand of 114.09 MLC drinking water in 2023 will be 169.89 in 2038 and 250.68 MLD in 2053 in Kabini command area.
KUWSDB Executive Engineer Siddanayaka Said that after the project is approved by the technical committee, the board will send the details of the project to the government and will start the work immediately.
Interest waived on water bill arrears, the minister urged
During the meeting, MLA Tanveer Sait urged Minister Birathi Basavaraj to take a decision to waive the interest amount on pending water bills of consumers. Byrathi said he would discuss the issue with the chief minister. “We can waive the interest, but the concern is that consumers may continue to demand rebates in future as well,” he said.
when mp Pratap Simha, MLAs L Nagendra and SA Ramdas raised the problem of water leakage and illegal water pipe connections leading to loss of water and revenue, Minister Basavaraj asked KUWSDB and MCC officials to submit a report on water supply and damage instructed.
Byrathi Basavaraj said that he would discuss with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to waive off the interest of Rs 73 crore on water bills up to Rs 150 crore.
While meeting at a progress review meeting at Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Basavaraj said, “A decision is to be taken to waive the interest on pending dues in all 10 municipal corporations of Karnataka. The issue will be discussed with the CM and people’s discussion is on.” Decision will be taken in interest.
Meanwhile, the minister also directed the MCC to procure high-voltage LED bulbs for street lights for better illumination. He also directed the officials of MCC and Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to repair and replace faulty street lights on Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Basavaraj assured the MCC that an amount of Rs 379 crore would be disbursed for works on underground drainage in Vijayanagar, which were damaged after incessant rains in the city last year.
Minister inaugurates Jal Bhavan
Byrathi Basavaraj on Friday inaugurated Jal Bhavan, the administrative block of the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, built at an estimated cost of Rs 18.4 crore. To visually align with other heritage structures in the city, the five-storey structure is built in the Indo-Saracenic style. The structure will have offices which, in turn, will house authorities of the Water Supply and Drainage Board, which will have jurisdiction over eight districts.
