South Africa Cricket Board revises bio-bubble norms for India tour

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has revised the bio-bubble norms for the India tour starting 26 December. Positive COVID-19 cases, if any, arise will be allowed, with the entire tour party and the host team fully vaccinated. Complete your isolation inside the bubble itself, the CSA said.

“Immediate contact of anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the bubble during the South Africa-India series will not require isolating and leaving the bubble, but as long as they are medically stable. Will be allowed to quarantine in hotel room.” Cricket Board added.

“These are part of the ‘strict’ norms for Bio-secure Environment (BSI) which have been put in place by Cricket South Africa in coordination with BCCI as the Indian contingent is due to reach Johannesburg later this week,” the cricket board said.

“Given that all those within the ecosystem will be vaccinated, the positive case will be isolated within the hotel room,” Shuaib Manjra, CSA’s chief medical officer, told ESPNcricinfo.

“Contact will continue and training will be strictly followed, with non-therapeutic interventions, and daily testing will be done,” he said.

The CSA originally put together more relaxed bio-bubble plans after the third wave of the pandemic hit South Africa in October. These have now been revised following the emergence of the latest COVID-19 edition, Omicron, and the accelerated global boom.

“While at the end of the third wave we considered moving from a strict BSE to a managed environment, the Omicron version and high levels of community transmission have forced a stricter BSE,” Manjra said.
