Sonia Gandhi’s meeting with Ghulam Nabi Azad

new Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi meeting senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad at her official 10, Janpath residence in the national capital this evening.

Earlier this evening, Azad reached the residence of the Congress President.

The meeting is being seen as an attempt by the Congress president to reach out to the G-23, which has shown signs of increasing aggression on the leadership issue.

G-23 leaders have expressed their concern in front of the party high command after consecutive electoral defeats.

The meeting comes after a crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee earlier this week in which the party’s poor performance in the recent assembly elections was discussed.

This comes as G23 leaders continue to press for “inclusive and collective leadership” at all levels of the Congress following its defeat in the recent assembly elections.

The G-23 group of dissidents has called for organizational reforms and greater accountability of the party.

Earlier on Wednesday, at least 18 leaders signed a letter calling for a “collective and inclusive model of leadership and decision-making at all levels”.

The G-23 leaders are reportedly rejecting the announcement of appointing senior leaders to suggest changes in the organisation.

They have clearly stated that some of them were involved in the recent assembly elections and are responsible for the defeat.

Earlier on Tuesday, Gandhi had sought the resignation of the presidents of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.

G-23 leaders including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and Kapil Sibal had earlier written to the Congress President stressing the need for reform and change in the organisation.
