Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’s Sonakshi Sinha spoke about reuniting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The trailer of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is finally out and has everyone gripped with its powerful dialogues and stellar set design. The film’s cast unveiled the trailer at a special event today and Sonakshi Sinha spoke about reuniting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, nearly 12 years after he produced Rowdy Rathore with Sonakshi and Akshay Kumar in the lead.

Sonakshi said, “Just the fact that it came from Sanjay sir, and I love his work. He has been very fond of me since I worked with him in Rowdy Rathore. He was the producer. Since then, he’s extremely fond of me, and we have been trying to do something together.”

“I feel truly blessed that the director has seen me like nobody has ever seen me before and has presented me in a world like nobody has seen me before. Thank You, Sanjay sir, we really miss you here today. From the entire cast and crew of Heeramandi, we want to say a big Thank You, Sanjay Leela Bhansali,” she concluded.

The historical drama series transports audiences to a time when courtesans reigned as monarchs. The series features Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Shaikh as tawaifs who go from having the Nawabs under their control to finding themselves fighting against English oppression.

Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar Suman, and Adhyayan Suman, will be portraying the Nawabs. Taha Shah Badussha takes on the character of Tajdar Baloch, a man oozing charisma and effortlessly captivating those around him with his magnetic personality. Fardeen Khan portrays Wali Mohammed, epitomizing nobility, dignity, and integrity, drawing admiration through his noble presence. Shekhar Suman brings Zulfiqar Ahmed to life, a character of authority whose very demeanour exudes power and sophistication. Lastly, Adhyayan Suman embodies Zorawar Ali Khan, a wealthy and arrogant nawab whose actions are guided solely by self-interest.

The trailer transports us to a time when courtesans reigned as monarchs. Through the stories of courtesans and their clients, set against the turbulent backdrop of the Indian Independence struggle in the 1940s, the series investigates the cultural reality of the namesake area of Heera Mandi.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will premiere on streaming service Netflix on May 1. The release date of the much-anticipated show was announced at a drone light show event held at the Mahalaxmi Race Course in South Mumbai.
