Some political parties are ‘misleading’ youth on Agneepath scheme, says Union Minister Tomar

Amid violent protests in several states against the ‘Agneepath’ defense recruitment scheme, Union Minister and BJP leader Narendra Singh Tomar on Friday said some political parties are trying to “mislead” the youth on the issue and said that the new The scheme will humanize the country. resource efficient. He said that this scheme is a major reform in the recruitment process in the defense forces which has been implemented after 75 years of independence.

Agneepath scheme is a long term plan to make the country’s human resource efficient. The youth should understand this, Tomar told reporters here. The Union Agriculture Minister was in Gwalior to participate in a program.

Tomar said that every year 46,000 youth would be inducted into the armed forces for training under the Agneepath scheme and among those who want to continue in service, they can exercise this option, while there are other job opportunities in other sectors as well. Opportunities will be available. “No way has been closed (for recruitment in the armed forces). Unnecessarily some political parties and individuals were trying to mislead the people.

The BJP leader did not name any party. Tomar said that when Agniveers (as recruits are called under the scheme) return after successfully completing four years of training, they will be like “diamonds” and will be offered jobs in every field.

Unveiling the ambitious plan on Tuesday, the government said youth between the age of 17-and-a-half and 21 years (upper age limit up to 23 years for the 2022 recruitment process) would be inducted for a four-year term, while 25 per cent of the youth will be included. The recruits will be hired for regular service. The new scheme for recruiting soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air Force was introduced by the government as a major overhaul of the decades-old selection process to raise the youth profile of the three services. However, the plan has invited criticism from opposition leaders, who have maintained that it will adversely affect the functioning of the armed forces.

However, defense job aspirants are not happy with the short-term recruitment scheme which comes without pension benefits and they have been protesting in several states across the country for the past few days.
