The era of silent films in Hindi cinema ended with Alam Ara in 1931. Since then, very few films have the heart to go without dialogues. but it seems Bollywood Sohum Shah is all set to experiment with the genre again as a silent film with Nushrat Bharucha, Konkona Sen Sharma and Nora Fatehi as members of the cast.
Sohum Shah, fresh from the success of his recently released series Maharani, uploaded a picture of himself hinting about his upcoming project. In the caption, the actor said that he cannot reveal much about it. “Starting a new project this week and I am very excited, but I have to control my enthusiasm and keep quiet until I am allowed to say anything. Really looking forward to it,” he wrote.
The actor’s wordplay was not lost on netizens and speculations were rife about whether he was actually alluding to a film without dialogues. As per a source close to the actor, “Sohum Shah is all set to be a part of a silent film starring Nusrat Bharucha, Konkona Sen Sharma and Nora Fatehi and he might leave hints for people to speculate. The film has been directed by a renowned director and produced by an eminent producer.”
Earlier it was reported that the film is being produced by well-known director-producer Luv Ranjan under his new banner Love Company Films. It has been a long time since Bollywood got silent films. Kamal Haasan’s Pushpak made waves in 1984. Karthik Subbaraj also directed a horror thriller silent film titled Mercury in 2018 starring Prabhu Deva.
Soham’s role as a strong statesman in Maharani was liked by many. He chose to gain a significant amount of weight and grew a mustache to give some authenticity to the role. He also studied several politicians and local legislators to fine-tune the nuances. The Tumbbad actor will next be seen in the web series Fallen, which will be helmed by Reema Kagti. The actor is said to be playing the role of a cop for which he is said to be going under some kind of special training.
