instant messaging platform Snapchat has announced two new features aimed at the security of teen using the platform. The company claims that these features will help protect them from strangers, potentially harassment and medicines.
One of these features has been added to the friend suggestion feature.quick addTo enhance the safety of children in the age group of 13 to 17 years on the platform. Snapchat won’t show friend suggestions from users ages 13-17 to others, unless they have a group of mutual friends.
“We recently added a new Safeguard to our friend suggestion feature, Quick Add, to protect children ages 13 to 17. To be discoverable in Quick Add by anyone else, users under the age of 18 must will need to have a certain number of friends with that person – further ensuring that this is a friend they know in real life,” Snapchat announced in a blogpost.
When it comes to the issue of drugs, the company has faced severe criticism over the years for losing the lives of various teenagers after buying drugs on online platforms. Snapchat has said it has made some progress with its drug-detecting algorithms, with current upgrades to its machine learning and AI algorithms claimed to deliver a 33% increase in detection since the last update. The company also has two new partners in the Heads Up portal – the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America (CADCA) and the Truth Initiative.
“88% of the drug-related content we disclosed is now actively detected by our machine learning and artificial intelligence technology, with the remainder being reported by our community. This is an increase of 33% since our last update. growth”, the company said.
