While Smriti Mandhana was the most talked about cricketer, India was the most popular team in the 2023 T20 World Cup

Ahead of International Women’s Day, media sharing platform Instagram has shared insights on how players and teams are celebrating the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. Smriti Mandhana was one of the most popular players and the India vs Pakistan match was one of the most popular matches on Instagram, with the entire tournament from India garnering over a billion plays on Instagram reels.

Cricket is a popular youth interest in India, so the strong interaction and engagement on Instagram during the event was surprising. Over 150,000 reels, over 140 million engagements related to matches have been created about the tournament from its start on 10 February to its conclusion on 26 February.

While much of the action was posted from @icc, @t20worldcup and the Instagram accounts of the cricketers, a squad of content creators was also sent to host country South Africa to cover the tournament. These creators – Rida Tharana, Saloni Gaur and RJ Kisna – shared reels from the viewer’s perspective and collaborated with different teams to create fun-filled content for their viewers.
