According to the statement, the new driving license will have an advanced microchip with features like Quick Response (QR) code and Near Field Communication (NFC), and the new RC will have the owner’s name printed on the front while the microchip and QR code will be printed on the back of the card. will be embedded.
“The cards had embedded chips earlier, but there were problems in reading the coded information in the chip, both the Delhi traffic police and the enforcement wing of the transport department did not have the required quantity of chip reader machines.
“In addition, the chips were designed and implemented by the respective states, resulting in difficulty in reading and receiving information from the chip, especially in the case of defaulters,” the statement said, explaining the need for upgrades. .
The QR-based smart card will enable integration of two web-based databases of all driving licenses and vehicle registrations, Sarathi and Vahan, to link and validate one’s information from the smart card.
The QR code is also expected to have an added benefit of acting as a “security feature” on the smart card.
“Once the driver/owner’s smart card is impounded, the department will be able to maintain the DL holder’s records and penalty on the vehicle database for 10 years.
“The new DLs will also help the government in maintaining records of disabled drivers, any modifications made to vehicles, emission standards and declaration of person to donate organs,” the statement said.
