SKM suspends Yogendra Yadav for going to the house of BJP worker who died in Lakhmipur violence

New Delhi: Yogendra Yadav has been suspended from the United Kisan Morcha for a month. The action was taken after Yogendra Yadav visited the house of BJP worker Shubham Mishra, who was killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, to offer condolences. After the demands made by farmer organizations in Punjab, the United Kisan Morcha took this decision in a meeting held on Thursday evening.

According to ABP News sources, Yogendra Yadav expressed regret that he did not consult other leaders of the United Kisan Morcha before visiting the house of a BJP worker who was killed in Lakhimpur Kheri. But Yogendra Yadav did not apologize for his action. Yogendra Yadav said that he did nothing wrong by meeting the family members of the slain farmers and the bereaved family of the deceased BJP worker. There should be no discrimination between the families of the victims. However, the United Kisan Morcha said that Yogendra Yadav insulted the farmers who lost their lives in the Lakhimpur incident by visiting the house of the deceased BJP worker.

A senior farmer leader said the decision was taken at a general meeting of the SKM, which is holding nationwide protests against the Centre’s agricultural laws.

“In its meeting, the SKM suspended Yogendra Yadav for a month as he had gone to meet the family of a BJP worker who was killed in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

“He (Yadav) cannot participate in the meetings and other activities of the United Kisan Morcha,” the farmer leader said.

Yadav had attended the general body meeting of SKM on Thursday.

After paying homage to a journalist and farmers who were crushed in Lakhimpur Kheri, Yogendra Yadav also visited the house of a BJP worker who was thrashed to death by the protesters.

This move of Yogendra Yadav has angered the farmers’ organizations of Punjab. On October 3, protesting farmers were brutally crushed at Tikunia in Lakhimpur Kheri, killing four farmers and a journalist. The son of the Union Minister of State for Home, the main accused in the incident, has been arrested by the police. Since the incident, farmers’ organizations and opposition parties have been demanding the removal of Ajay Mishra from the post.
