Sixth accused in Udaipur tailor murder case arrested, sent to NIA custody till July 12

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made another arrest in connection with the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The sixth person, Wasim Ali, was picked up by the NIA on Tuesday night. Ali, whose meat shop is opposite Kanhaiya Lal’s tailoring shop, was questioned for his alleged role in helping the other accused in conducting recce of the area. He was arrested on Wednesday and remanded to NIA custody till July 12 by a designated court.

Special Public Prosecutor TP Sharma said, “After hearing the case, the court sent Waseem Ali to NIA custody till July 12.”

Kanhaiya Lal was hacked to death with a cleaver inside his tailoring shop on June 28. Riyaz Akhtari can be seen attacking the tailor and the video of the incident was recorded by Ghosh Mohammad on a phone. Both posted the video online and said that they committed the murder to avenge the alleged insult to Islam. He was arrested within hours of Lal’s murder.

Two other accused were arrested last week for their involvement in conspiracy and recceing the sewing shop of the victim, while the fifth accused, identified as Mohammad Mohsin, was arrested on Monday and others Along with the people were sent on police remand till July 12.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government on Wednesday in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that it would give jobs to the sons of Kanhaiya Lal Teli. Gehlot wrote on Twitter, ‘The cabinet, taking a sensitive decision, has decided to appoint Shri Kanhaiyalal Teli’s sons Yash Teli and Tarun Teli in government service.

“The rules of appointment have been relaxed,” the chief minister said. “This appointment will be provided under Rule 6C of the Rajasthan Subordinate Office Clerical Services (Amendment) Rules, 2008 and 2009,” he said.
