Mysore: Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Commission President M shivanna A state-wide survey on poor workers who are socially, economically and educationally backward and deprived of minimum wages and basic facilities will begin in February, it said on Tuesday.
Sivanna told reporters that a survey would be conducted to identify those working in gram panchayats and BBMP so that they could be brought into the mainstream of the society. “The National Law School, which has already conducted the economic and social conditions of pourkarmics, will conduct the survey. It will be completed in three months.”
Speaking on the rehabilitation of Pourkarmakars, Sivanna said that the state is providing rehabilitation to 5,080 manual scavengers identified in the state. “Rehabilitation facilities will also be provided to the families of 80 manual scavengers who died in the line of duty,” he said.
He also listened to the complaints of the employees working in the Department of Cleanliness and Underground Drainage. Mysore University, During the meeting, Sivanna discussed the facilities and benefits provided by the University to the 234 Pourkarmikas serving on the campus.
