Singer Akasa on her days in Mika Singh’s all-male band: ‘I grew up kite early’

Singers Aastha Gill and Akasa have marked their second collaboration with the release of their new song ‘Shringar’. The song, which features Milind Soman, is written and composed by Vayu and includes a rap poem by Raftaar. The music video is directed and choreographed by Puneet J Pathak.

Milind Soman is making a comeback in the music video since his iconic appearance in Alisha Chinai’s 1995’s Made In India music video. In makeup, the supermodel wears a nose ring and sports kohl-rimmed eyes.

In an interview with The Hindustan Times, the artist opens up about his new song, talks about Milind Soman’s collaboration with Vayu and Raftaar.

On joining Milind in the project, Akasa said, “When we were talking about the song, Milind Soman was the first thing that came to my mind, Aastha, Sony Music and Puneet. We were all like if this happens then nothing can be better than this. And we weren’t told that it worked. To this Aastha said, “We got to know two days before the shoot, and we were like (surprised reaction).”

When the singers were asked if they had a crush on Milind, they quickly replied and admitted that it was true and that Akasa was actually a ‘hardcore’ Milind fan. “When Rules (2003 rom-com) came out, I was at an age where I had a crush on my best friend, and I was a naughty girl. He was kind of cooler. So watching that movie made me feel That if such a hot person could like a naughty girl then so could my life. I was really obsessed with them during the rules,” Akasa said.

Akasa debuted in 2013 with Phool Jhol, a duet with Mika Singh from the film Jackpot, when she was just 20 years old. This happened when she worked with him as the only girl in his 10-member band. Speaking about those days, Akasa said, “They were all above 30, and I was 17. Mika Singh used to say at that time, that ‘Sher among the lions (He is among the lions) .. .’ And I think my voice became so strong because there used to be 5 male sardar singers, and then I used to be like this, my voice can’t even be heard. So I kept shouting louder to listen to me So I became a heavy voice.”

He continued, “Mika ji has many things for which I am grateful. Because I got a lot of experience at a very young age. So many big shows – my contemporaries got to perform there after four or five years of me. Learned a lot of the logistics behind .. I also know how to manage a band. I learned how to survive on three hours of sleep for a month. When my friends were out partying and all 17 And was like 18, I was doing this. It’s shaped me in every way possible and I’m so grateful… today in a room of people who are 10 years older than me, I’m as mature as them. Because I Grown up very quickly, which may not always be a good thing, but yes.”
