SILCHAR: A 19-year-old college student was allegedly killed by her cousin brother while she was wandering with a child in a paddy field near her home at Bhakatpur village near here on Tuesday afternoon. Accused Amar Sinha was arrested early on Wednesday from Bhakatpur village, said police.
Amar, who originally hailed from Jiribam in Manipur and stayed as a tenant at victim Nisha Sinha’s house, slit her throat with a knife, stabbed in her stomach, slit her wrist and fled away.
A senior official of Silchar police station on Wednesday said police have launched an investigation into the matter. Amar, a private bank employee, is being grilled in the custody of Silchar police station, the official added.
Police suspected that the incident may be linked to a romantic relationship.
Various organisations, including All Assam Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan, All India Democratic Youth Organisation, and All India Democratic Students’ Organisation, have expressed concern over the girl’s murder and demanded strict punishment for the accused.
