According to a press release issued by Peels Regional Police on Sunday, the victim, identified as Pawanpreet Kaur of Brampton, was shot by an unknown assailant on Saturday night in the city of Mississauga in the province of Ontario.

According to the Toronto Sun newspaper, Kaur was shot outside a gas station.

Police received a report of a female being shot at approximately 10:39 p.m., and upon arriving at the scene found the victim with gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were attempted but the victim succumbed to her injuries, the press release said.

Police are treating it as a ‘targeted’ incident.

According to duty-inspector Tim Nagtegal, quoted by the news report, Kaur was pronounced dead at the scene.

Little information was given about the suspect.

The report quoted Nagtegal as saying, “We are not able to tell the gender of the suspect at this time, only that he was a partygoer who was seen leaving – all dressed in dark clothing.” “The criminal was seen running away from the scene dressed in all black,” he added.

The Toronto Sun newspaper quoted an eyewitness, Carmela Sandoval, as saying, “We saw him fall and then all of a sudden the gunman pointed a gun at his head.”

Indian-origin teenager Mehakpreet Sethi was stabbed to death by another teenager in the parking lot of a high school in the Canadian province of British Columbia.
