Fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force will show their might by taking off from the Purvanchal Expressway today. More than 30 fighter aircraft will fly past after the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under this, after the landing of the C-130 J Hercules on the 3.2 km long air strip, other aircraft will start preparing for the touch and go operation.

This air show will send a message to the world that India has increased its strength by taking a step forward strategically. The expressway will play an important role in the event of a war on two fronts. Being close to the northern and eastern borders, fighter jets can be easily operated from here on both the fronts.

Defense experts Air Marshal (Retd) JS Chauhan and Air Commodore (Retd) RN Gaikwad told its strategic importance during a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar. Let us know how the Purvanchal Expressway will strengthen the military power …

Increased strength on the Eastern and Northern Front

  • Airforce aircraft like Sukhoi 30 MIK, Rafale, C 130 J Super Hercules will now be able to land and take off on the air strip of Purvanchal Express.
  • This would be the first expressway to be used for emergency during the war against China on the Eastern Front.
  • The distance of both the fronts is about 600 km from here, so by preparing for two to three hours, a strike like Balakot can be easily carried out. The response time in such combat operation will be only two to three hours.

Missiles will be given a befitting reply from here
After the Doklam dispute, China has built 16 airbases in Xinjiang province and the Tibetan region. These include large bases like Ali Gunsa, Burang, Tajang at an altitude of 14 thousand feet. There are many big cities with fighter planes as well as missiles in China’s long range with 5 big airbases in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar. These include many big cities including Gorakhpur, Darbhanga, Bakshi Ka Talab, Prayagraj. As soon as these long range missiles hit the target, it would be easy for the Air Force to start combat operations near Sultanpur on the Purvanchal Expressway.

‘Touch and Go’ will show strategic power
Under Plan B of the Air Force, in case of destruction of the airbase, this expressway will be used in war time, but in the present situation in peace time, India is landing more than 30 aircraft on this air strip to show its strategic strength. Here this type of touch and go operation will continue continuously, so that Pakistan along with China can have a sense of India’s air power. Apart from this, preparations have been made to land fighter jets on the runway of the big expressway soon. India has completed such preparations, especially in the Northeast, besides in Uttarakhand.

On Sunday, the Hercules plane was tested after landing on the airstrip.

Why is the air strip on Purvanchal Expressway necessary?

  • Ayodhya is adjacent to Sultanpur
  • Kashi is about 150 km away
  • East and North airbases are near
  • Nepal border is near the air strip of Purvanchal Expressway
Since the inspection of CM Yogi Adityanath on November 12, there is a continuous trial of fighter planes. During this, Sukhoi and Miraj were landed on the air strip.

12 air strips proposed in the country

  • Between Barmer and Jaisalmer on the highway of Bharatmala project near the border
  • Land fixed for making air strip on National Highway between Phalodi and Jaisalmer
  • Bijbehara Chinar Bagh National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir, near LOC
  • Rampur-Kathgodam Highway in Uttarakhand, near China border
  • Kharagpur Kanjar Highway in West Bengal, near Bangladesh border
  • Assam’s Mohanbari-Tinsukia Highway, near the China border

What is Highway Strip

  • Highway strips or road runways are specially prepared for the landing of military aircraft.
  • In emergency, these runways are converted into military airbases.
  • Aircraft operate from here only after the airbase is completely destroyed in the event of war.
  • The first highway strip was built during World War II.
  • At that time motorways were used extensively for landing of aircraft.
  • The highway strip is generally 2 to 3.5 kilometers long.
  • The highway strip is more in thickness and its base is made of solid concrete.
  • At the time of use for the airbase, the airfield is prepared near it.
  • The space required for aircraft landing is controlled through the Cotobar system.

Emergency landing on the highway
The landing of Mirage-2000 was done in 2015 on Yamuna Express Highway. This was the first time in the history of the country that a highway was used for military purposes. The ‘Mirage-2000’ was landed around 6.30 am. Then at around 8.15 pm, an Air Force helicopter also made a landing on the expressway. Yamuna Expressway was closed for general public from 3 am onwards.

What is Road Runway Test?
The road may also have to be made runway during enemy attack. The test done to decide on which roads the plane can land is called road runway test. The Air Force keeps looking for such highways in different parts of the country.
