Farmers’ organizations, agitating to withdraw the new agricultural laws of the central government, held a meeting with the political parties of Punjab on Friday. For the next assembly elections, the farmers’ jathebandis, who were part of the United Kisan Morcha, first held meetings with other political parties including Shiromani Akali Dal, then Congress and then Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Lok Insaaf Party (LIP). However, as soon as the meeting between the farmers unions and the Congress leaders ended, a new dispute started.

In fact, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Navjot Sidhu arrived with his close aide Sumit to attend this meeting, which is considered important with farmer leaders. Sidhu was accompanied by Punjab Pradesh Congress Working President Kuljit Nagra and State Congress General Secretary Pargat Singh. A photo of Sumit sitting in the meeting hall with the representatives of farmers’ groups and Congress leaders is going viral. Many questions are being raised regarding this. Significantly, Sumit has been describing himself as Sidhu’s nephew.

In this meeting held with the political parties on the call of United Kisan Morcha, only those leaders whose names were already given were allowed to attend. Sharing this photo on a page called ‘Akali Malwa’ on social media, it was written that it was the official meeting of the Congress party with the farmers’ unions or was there a separate meeting of the farmers with PPCC President Sidhu? If this meeting of farmers was only with political parties and their representatives, then under what right did Sumit, a special relative of Sidhu, attend it?

It was also written in the post that earlier the captain had eaten barfi and now Sidhu may not have gone to arrange barfi with his entire family. Let us inform that after the Punjab government increased the sugarcane rate by Rs 50 to Rs 360 per quintal in the state, farmer leaders fed sweets to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in Chandigarh. After that, the opposition parties had described the demonstrations across the state regarding the rate of sugarcane as a well-thought-out strategy of the Congress.

Sumit is the son of Congress MLA Dhanwant Singh Dhuri

Sumit Singh’s father’s name is Dhanwant Singh Dhuri and he has been a Congress MLA from Dhuri. Dhanwant Singh Dhuri and Navjot Sidhu’s father have a family relationship. In 2004, when Sidhu contested the first Lok Sabha election from Amritsar on a BJP ticket, Dhanwant Singh Dhuri was his election in-charge. Sidhu resigned from the Punjab cabinet following differences with Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and started his YouTube channel ‘Jitega Punjab’ almost a year later. Sumit sees all the work related to this channel and Sidhu’s IT. Sumit has studied from the famous Punjab Public School (PPS) in Nabha. It is worth mentioning that the PPS status of Nabha is considered at par with Sanawar School in Punjab.
