Sidhu questions Amarinder Sarkar on ‘delay’ in action on STF report on drugs

Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday questioned his own party’s state government led by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh over the delay in action on the Special Task Force (STF) report on drugs.

In a series of tweets on Monday, Sidhu asked what action was taken in the last two and a half years. Further, he said that if there was further delay, he would move a resolution in the state assembly to make the report public.

“In February 2018, the STF, headed by ADGP Harpreet Sidhu, filed a “status report” in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, examining the statements and evidence recorded by the ED, that of Bikramjit Singh Majithia and drug traffickers. were presented before the Hon’ble Court in connection with the involvement of others in the IPC. In 2018, I held a press conference, asking the Government to take immediate action on the information shared by the STF with the Hon’ble Court, Court by the Enforcement Directorate. After examining the evidence produced before the Supreme Court (sharing the court record with admissible statements),” Sidhu wrote on Twitter.

“The Hon’ble High Court had asked the Punjab Government to proceed as per law on the STF report. On 23 May 2018, the Government filed before the Court Opinion-cum-Status Report which is still waiting for daylight in a sealed cover. How much more should the people of Punjab wait after a delay of 2.5 years. What was the investigation done by the Punjab Police? What action was taken by the Punjab government? Should be brought in the public domain. Since the submission of the report, the state What action has taken next in 2.5 years? The government should make itself accountable to the people with complete transparency.”

“No significant order has been passed by the Hon’ble Court on this matter in 2.5 years which affects the lives of the youth of Punjab. Government should be sealed to take the matter against Majithia to its logical conclusion at the earliest. A petition should be filed to open the report. Guilty. Punishment of drug traffickers is the priority of Congress under 18-point agenda. What action has been taken on Majithia while the government demands extradition of NRIs connected with the same case If there is further delay, it will bring a resolution in the Punjab Assembly to make the report public,” Sidhu further said.

Last week, the home department wrote a letter to the STF chief seeking to know the reason for the delay in taking action against big fish involved in drug trade in the state.
