Sidhu found his way? Punjab Chief Minister-led cabinet accepts Attorney General APS Deol’s resignation

New Delhi: After Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu addressed his concerns over the appointment of APS Deol as the state’s Advocate General in a meeting with Harish Chaudhary and CM Charanjit Singh Channi, the Punjab cabinet on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Advocate General APS Deol. .

The Punjab CM assured that the post left vacant by Advocate General APS Deol would be filled by Wednesday.

We have sent the names of police officers who have served more than 30 years. Of these, the Center will send a panel in the coming days. We will select a new Director General of Police (DGP) from amongst the panel,” the Punjab CM was quoted by ANI.

AICC Punjab affairs in-charge Harish Choudhary held a meeting with Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday to resolve the rift between the two leaders over some government appointments.

Apart from the appointment of Advocate General APS Deol, Sidhu also raised concerns over the appointment of Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota as the acting Director General of Police (DGP).

Hours after the meeting, the state Congress president, while addressing a press conference, questioned the state government about the status of investigation into the 2015 Kotkapura police firing incident.

Addressing the media after the cabinet meeting, the Punjab CM said that Advocate General APS Deol had submitted his resignation a few days back.

Stating that the resignation and its approval would be sent to the state governor, Punjab CM Channi said, “The cabinet has accepted it (resignation) today.”

Earlier, the Punjab Congress chief had questioned the appointment of APS Deol as the new Advocate General of Punjab. Deol was the lawyer of former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and represented him in cases related to police firing on Sikhs protesting sacrilege cases.

“Mr AG-Punjab, justice is blind but the people of Punjab are not. Our Congress party came to power with a promise to deliver justice in sacrilege cases in which AAP appeared before the High Court for the main conspirators/accused and made serious allegations Against our government,” Sidhu had recently tweeted.

Along with the Punjab AG, the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state will also be replaced and sent to the Governor. Presently, IPS Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota is serving as the DGP of the state.
