Siddharth – Saina Nehwal controversy: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police registers case against Tamil actor

The ongoing controversy over Siddharth’s comment on Saina Nehwal has taken a new turn. Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police has registered a case against Siddharth for making indecent remarks against Saina. The actor has been booked under Section 509 of the IPC, Section 67 of the IT Act after a social worker lodged a complaint against him.

The Tamil actor courted controversy after he reacted to Saina’s reaction on the lapse in security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter. Last week, Saina had shared her views on Narendra Modi’s security breach. He wrote, ‘No country can claim to be safe if its own PM’s security is compromised. I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists (sic).” To this Siddharth wrote, “The world’s micro cock champion…Thank God we have India’s saviors. Shame on you #Rihanna (sic).”

The actor received criticism from many, including the National Commission for Women. NCW urged Twitter to ban the actor’s account for his “lewd and inappropriate” tweet against Saina. He had also approached the Maharashtra Police and demanded registration of an FIR against him.

After the uproar, Siddharth issued an apology. On Tuesday night he took to Twitter and issued his apology. “Dear Saina, I want to apologize to you for my rude joke written a few days back as a reply to one of your tweets. I may disagree with you on many things but when I read your tweet, even my frustration or anger cannot justify my tone and words. I know I have more grace than this.” He insisted that his ‘words of drama and humor had no malicious intent, to which so many people of all walks of life have been blamed for it.’ She called herself a ‘hardcore feminist ally’ and ‘there was no gender implied’ in the tweet. “I hope we can put this behind us and you will accept my letter. You will always be my champion.”

Reacting to his apology, Saina told news agency ANI, “He first said something about me and then apologized. I don’t even know why it became so viral. I was shocked to see myself trending on Twitter. Glad that Siddharth has apologised. You should not target such a woman. This is right. I’m not bothered by it. I am happy in my place. God bless him.”
