Shubman Gill To Face One Match Ban? India Star In Deep Trouble For Expressing Disappointment Over Third Umpire’s Decision

India suffered a disappointing defeat against Australia in the final of the World Test Championship at the Kennington Oval. Shubman Gill, who had a remarkable year with the bat, failed to make an impact in the crucial match. Despite his impressive performances across all three formats for India and clinching the Orange Cap in IPL 2023, Gill struggled to perform in both the innings.

Gill was dismissed in a controversial manner in the second innings. He threw the ball towards Cameron Green, who made a diving catch. However, replays suggested that the ball may have touched the ground before Green made the catch. However, the third umpire upheld the decision and declared Gill out.

After the conclusion of Day 4, Shubman Gill expressed his disappointment on Twitter by posting a picture of Cameron Green’s controversial catch. According to the ICC’s Code of Conduct, this act of frustration and blatant criticism could potentially lead to a substantial fine for Gill.

In accordance with Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players can face charges of Level 1 or Level 2 offenses for making disparaging or critical comments about events occurring in international matches or persons involved in such matches. However, the seriousness of the situation determines whether the player will be penalized or not.

If Shubman Gill is accused of his tweet, he may be fined heavily. A Level 1 offense can result in a warning from the ICC, a fine of 50% of his match fee and one or two demerit points. A Level 2 offence, on the other hand, will result in the deduction of four demerit points and a fine ranging from 50% to 100% of the match fee. Accumulating four demerit points can lead to a one-match ban in the Test format or a suspension from two limited-overs internationals.

Gill’s actions on social media may be an expression of frustration, but they can have unintended consequences. As a professional cricketer, it is important for him to follow the rules and regulations laid down by the ICC and maintain a positive image on and off the field.
