Shubman Gill is expected to open the innings for India along with skipper Rohit Sharma in the WTC final against Australia

After two months of long T20 fixtures in the IPL, the Indian cricketers will now turn their attention to a major international assignment, the World Test Championship (WTC) final. The red-ball match between India and Australia will begin on June 7 at the Oval in London. The Indian team has already left for England, starting their final preparations for the game. Team India will have high hopes from the in-form Shubman Gill, who recently finished a stellar IPL season. It seems that the Indian batsman is also ready to do well for the team and has been seen practicing in the nets. In a picture doing the rounds on social media, Gill, dressed in the new Team India kit, can be seen ready to face a delivery in the nets.

The young Indian opener was a key component for Gujarat Titans reaching the finals for two consecutive seasons. Thanks to his blistering form, Gill was able to win the Orange Cap after becoming the top scorer of IPL 2023. In his 17 matches this season, Gill scored a total of 890 runs at an impressive batting average of 59.33. He hit three centuries while registering four fifty-plus scores during the campaign.

Indian fans will be hoping that Shubman Gill continues his fine form in the WTC final as well. The 23-year-old cricketer will also look to make the most of the match as this will be his first assignment against mighty Australia in an ICC match.

Showing his faith in Shubman Gill, a fan commented, “I am expecting the same form in the WTC final.”

According to a fan, the hard and bouncy surface of the Oval could make things difficult for Shubman Gill. “It will be a tough task to handle seam and swing conditions against Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in England,” the man predicted.

Highlighting Shubman Gill’s struggles in red-ball cricket so far, a fan tweeted, “Looking forward to his good touch in Tests. He wasn’t really impressive in Tests. Ahmedabad’s pitch will not be found everywhere.

Shubman Gill is expected to open the innings for India along with Rohit Sharma. His place was confirmed after KL Rahul’s exit from the WTC final. Rahul suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL. The Indian opener will require surgery to make a full recovery.

Shubman Gill made his Test debut during the tour of Australia in 2021, receiving his Test cap from former head coach Ravi Shastri. Gill did not fail to impress with his batting skills in the four-match series, which India won 2–1. Playing three matches, the youngster scored 259 runs in total, while his best score was 91.
