Shubhankar Sharma scores 67 in tough conditions, moves up to fourth in Abu Dhabi

India’s Shubhankar Sharma returned from the opening double bogey on Saturday to draw a 5-under 67 to move into the top-5 of the Abu Dhabi Championship, a first in the Rolex Series on the DP World Tour. After rounds of 70-71 in the first two days, Sharma went from 3-under for two days to 8-under and 54 holes for three days. Sharma, who won the second of his two European Tour titles in 2018, was fourth with Norwegian Viktor Hovland, who scored the 18th hole.

Scott Jamieson (68) will be aiming to be a wire-to-wire winner as he built his lead on a brilliant birdie on the final hole to clear one to Shane Lowry (67) and Thomas Peters (67).

Jamieson was at 11-under, while Lowry and Peters were at 10-under with Sharma and Howland at 8-under.

Sharma opened with a birdie but dropped a double on the sixth par-4. He hit back immediately with a hawk with a superb 33-foot putt. He birdied on the ninth, 11th, 14th and 15th and scored 67 runs in the last three.

Sharma has now had two doubles, one on the first day at Para-3 on the fourth and a third on the Para-4 on the sixth.

Sharma, who started the day with a fine birdie, scored a double and made a brilliant comeback for 67 runs, the score of the day.

He said, ‘I am very happy with the way the day went, especially after that double bogey. It was important that I fight back after that and getting an eagle was very satisfying,” Sharma said.

On what’s working for him, Sharma said, “I feel like it’s just a game of patience. With strong winds anything is possible and you know. So when that double (bogey) happened, I had to. Just had to be patient.

“So you have to give yourself perspective every time you make those errors and try to give yourself as many opportunities as possible and it’s working for me this week.”

Regarding any change in his game or attitude, Sharma said, “No, I haven’t made any changes. I went back home in October last year. I was on tour for six months and I was really tired. went.

“So I had to go back home and just chill with my friends. I had to recharge and that’s all I did. I haven’t really changed anything in my swing. And I feel more energized and healthier right now.”

About his plan for the last day, he said. “Patience. It’s all about patience. Tomorrow is going to be a long day and I’m sure the wind will blow too. So I just have to keep up the energy and give myself chances.”
