In the wake of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik being summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday came out in support of the leader and said the country is proud of him.

Officials said on Friday that Malik has been asked to answer some questions in connection with the alleged insurance scam in the Union Territory. Reacting to the development, Kejriwal took to Twitter and wrote, “In this time of fear you have shown great courage, Sir. He is a coward, hiding behind CBI. Whenever a crisis hit this great country, people like you faced it with courage.”

In his now-deleted tweet, Malik had said, “I have exposed the sins of some people by speaking the truth. Maybe that’s why the call has come. I am the son of a farmer, I will not panic. I stand by the truth. #CBI.”

Malik had claimed that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear two files between August 23, 2018 and October 30, 2019, during his tenure as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

In April last year, the CBI had registered two FIRs on allegations of corruption by Malik in the award of contracts for a group medical insurance scheme for government employees and a civil work worth Rs 2,200 crore related to the Kiru hydroelectric project in Jammu and Kashmir. The PTI report said.

Responding to his CBI summons, Malik told the news agency that the CBI has asked for his presence at the agency’s Akbar Road guesthouse for “certain clarifications”.

“They want some clarification for which they want my presence. I am going to Rajasthan so I have given them dates from 27th to 29th April when I am available.”

He was questioned by the CBI last year in connection with the alleged scam.
