Shocking ‘Sextortion’ Case: A Woman’s Video Call, Clothes Off, Rs 6.5 Lakh Gone

The cases of sextortion are increasing these days. In the last few months, many such cases have come to the fore, in which men fall prey to online video call fraud and lose lakhs. A few days back, a Gurugram man was extorted of lakhs of rupees after traveling to Gurgaon to meet a ‘male friend’ on a gay dating site. Today another case has come to light, where a woman made a video call to a man.

A 39-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Thane city allegedly lost Rs 6.50 lakh after being lured by a woman over a video call, police said on Wednesday.

According to the victim’s complaint, she received a WhatsApp video call from a number on March 17, 2023, where a woman spoke to her. In the middle of the call, he suddenly took off his clothes, following which the man immediately disconnected the call, said an official from the Kasarvadavali police station. After some time the person received a video of the woman and some screen shots in which he was seen having a conversation with her. He then immediately removed the content.

Ransom call from ‘Commissioner’

The officer quoted the complaint as saying that the next day the man received a call from an unknown number in which he introduced himself as the police commissioner of Delhi. The caller told the man that a woman was running a sex racket and the police, while trying to arrest her, found a video of the man which was about to be uploaded on social media.

The official said that the caller told the person that if he wanted to stop the video from being uploaded on social media, then he should contact the person mentioned by him.
When the person called the person, he allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from him. The officer said the man made the payment fearing slander.
Later, different people called the man between March 18 and 25 and allegedly collected a total of Rs 6.50 lakh from him.

According to the police, recently a new modus operandi came to their notice. Criminals create fake profiles on the app ‘Grindr’ and have friendly chats with their victims. The accused lure the victims to participate in sexual activities and invite them to specific places. Once the victims are in an objectionable position, the co-accused forcefully enter the premises. They proceed to make a nude video of the victim and then threaten to share it with her friends and family members.

Fearing social stigma, the victim succumbs to the demands of the accused and transfers the money to the accounts provided by them. “In the first incident, the complainant informed the police that he had met a person named Rahul on the social media app ‘Grinder’. Rahul lured the victim to meet him at Vinobapuri Metro Station on April 24. On reaching the metro station, Rahul directed the complainant to a room located in Srinivaspuri area, where the trap had already been set up,” said Rajesh Deo, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East), once inside the room and engaged in conversation, the two men suddenly Walked in and started a recording. complainant’s video
