Shoaib Malik Becomes Only 2nd Player To Reach 13,000 T20 Runs

Hours after Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik made the headlines following his wedding announcement on social media, the former Pakistan skipper scripted history by becoming only the second batsman in T20 cricket to reach 13,000 runs. Playing for Fortune Barishal against Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024, Malik scored 17 not out off 18 balls, contributing to his team’s successful chase of 135 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Malik also took a wicket in the match, dismissing Rangpur Riders captain Nurul Hasan.

Shoaib Malik contributed with the ball as well, taking a wicket in the single over he bowled. He managed to dismiss the well-set Rangpur Riders captain, Nurul Hasan, who was batting on 23 at the time. This all-round performance showcased Malik’s valuable contribution to Fortune Barishal’s success in the match against Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024.

Most Runs In T20 Cricket History

  • Chris Gayle – 14,562 runs in 463 matches
  • Shoaib Malik – 12,993 runs in 525 matches
  • Kieron Pollard – 12,454 runs in 641 matches
  • Virat Kohli – 11,994 runs in 376 matches

Shoaib Malik was just 7 runs away from reaching the significant milestone before participating in his first game of the Bangladesh Premier League. His last appearance in competitive cricket was for Sialkot in Pakistan’s National T20 Cup in December 2023. Following this break, Shoaib Malik successfully achieved the milestone during the BPL 2024, marking a notable achievement in his career.

Despite being the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket in Asia, Shoaib Malik has yet to score a century in the format. At 41 years old, he has retired from Tests and ODIs but has chosen to remain active in the shortest format, making himself available for selection. This commitment reflects his dedication to contributing to T20 cricket, even after retiring from other formats of the game.

Shoaib Malik has amassed a total of 2435 runs in 124 T20 Internationals (T20Is) for Pakistan, maintaining an average of 30. Despite being a crucial part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup victory in 2009, he has not represented the national team since November 20, 2021.

In a surprising turn of events, Shoaib Malik surprised his fans on Saturday morning by revealing his marriage to actor Sana Javed. This announcement comes amid ongoing speculation about his relationship status with Sania Mirza, adding an unexpected twist to the personal aspects of Shoaib Malik’s life.
