Shoaib Akhtar’s reply after Pakistan’s close defeat against West Indies in the first Test

Former Pakistan bowler Shoaib Akhtar was embroiled in his assessment of Pakistan’s one-wicket loss against West Indies in the first Test at Sabina Park. Pakistan dropped several catches which gave the hosts many chances to get back into the competition.

Akhtar’s message was clear: poor fielding performance dented Pakistan’s hopes of winning the competition.

On Twitter, he wrote, “They say there’s a reason. Catch. Win. Match!”

Their disappointment was evident as Pakistan squandered their chances despite having complete control over the proceedings. In a followup tweet, Shoaib reiterated, “And I repeat the catch. Win. Match come on boys, one more!”

After the Caribbean team crossed the finish line, Shoaib signed off saying in despair, “Let’s go to sleep. (Okay now you sleep)”

Pakistan captain Babar Azam said that the condition of the pitch is unfavorable for batting.

After the match, he admitted that the game went out of his way, dropping two crucial catches in the final session of the match. Had the visiting team not loosened their grip by dismissing Kemar Roach twice, they could have easily dismissed West Indies.

Roach was dropped first by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan and then fast bowler Hasan Ali gave another relief.

Roach took advantage of the opportunities and played a match-winning innings.

His unbeaten 30 out of 52 included some fours and also hit the winning run. While Roach stitched in at one end, Jayden Seals provided support from the other end after taking a fifer in the contest.
