Shahid Afridi urges Shoaib Akhtar to be left alone after latter comments on Shaheen Afridi’s injury in T20 WC final
Shoaib Akhtar made headlines a few days ago when he criticized Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi for not completing his quota of four overs in the T20 final. World Cup last year.
Shaheen suffered a knee injury during the high-stakes final against England and had to leave the field due to knee pain. Pakistan had to bear the brunt of Shaheen’s injury as England completed their chase.
Akhtar said that the left-arm fast bowler should have taken painkillers and continued to play in the final.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, who is Shaheen Afridi’s father-in-law, has responded to Akhtar’s comments.
Speaking on Pakistani channel Sama TV, Afridi said, ‘Shoaib Akhtar has taken so many injections that he cannot walk now! Look, this is Shoaib Akhtar’s class. He can do that. Although it is difficult. Not everyone can be Shoaib Akhtar. It is difficult to play with an injury if you take injections and painkillers. Because then, you run the risk of making the injury more serious. Anyway, leave Shoaib Akhtar alone!
Shoaib Akhtar, popularly known as Rawalpindi Express, is surrounded by controversies. He recently suggested that Pakistani players need to improve their English speaking skills.
“Now you see, there is no character in the team. No one to talk to. (You can see there is no player with a good personality in the team, nor do they know how to talk.) How awkward they look when they come to the post-match presentation,” Shoaib Akhtar told Suno News Was.
Shoaib Akhtar also said that captain Babar Azam had failed to become the biggest brand in Pakistan because of his poor oratory skills. “I want to say openly that Babar Azam should be the biggest brand in Pakistan, but why has he not emerged as the biggest brand in Pakistan? Because he cannot speak.’
Shaheen Afridi is currently playing for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. The Lankan pacer appears to be in supreme form.
Shaheen registered impressive bowling figures of 3/22 in Lahore Qalandars’ last match against Quetta Gladiators and played a key role in his team’s victory.
