‘Shifting Not A Punishment But Govt’s Plan…’: Kiren Rijiju Takes Charge of Earth Sciences Ministry

When asked why he was dropped as law minister due to repeated clashes with the judiciary, Rijiju said, “Don’t ask questions related to the previous ministry, as they are no longer relevant.”

A day after he was abruptly dropped as the Union Law Minister, Kiren Rijiju on Friday took over as Earth Sciences Minister and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity to handle various portfolios.

Refusing to answer questions about his previous ministry, the former law minister argued that they were no longer relevant and that he was looking forward to serving in the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

To a question on whether he was dropped as law minister because of his repeated clashes with the judiciary, Rijiju said, “Don’t ask questions related to the previous ministry as they are no longer relevant.”

Besides, Rijiju refused to comment on his rift with the Supreme Court when he took over the law ministry.

After taking charge of Earth Ministry, Rijiju said, “Opposition will definitely criticize me…Opposition speaking against me, this is not a new thing…This transfer is not a punishment, it is a plan of the government.” , this is the vision of PM Modi.” Science.

“Not a day to talk politics,” he said.

Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mrityunjay Mohapatra and Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor Vishwajit Sahay were present when Rijiju took over as the Earth Sciences Minister.

Senior officials of the ministry, including secretary M Ravichandran, were in Diu for the G-20 Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG) conference.
