Shaun Williams and Craig Ervine set for Miss Bangladesh Test, in isolation after family members COVID positive

Zimbabwe players Sean Williams and Craig Ervine will miss the one-off Test against Bangladesh as they will have to isolate themselves following COVID-19 cases in their families. The one-off Test between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh is scheduled to begin in Harare on 7 July. Zimbabwe’s 20-man squad was announced last week with Sean Williams and Craig Ervine missing out on the squad. Cricket ESPNcricinfo quoted media manager Darlington Majonga as saying. “The two had to self-isolate after coming in contact with family members who tested positive for Covid. As per the national health protocol, he had to self-isolate.”

In the absence of this pair, Brendan Taylor can captain Zimbabwe.

“We are missing some experienced players but we have some young and exciting players coming in. This is a great opportunity for them to see where they stand. These are exciting times for Zimbabwean cricket.”

The one-off Test match is crucial for both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe as they will be hoping to gain some momentum for the upcoming limited-overs series.

Zimbabwe and Bangladesh are not enjoying a perfect outing in the purest format of the game as they were bowled out in their most recent Test series. The hosts last played in a two-match Test series against Pakistan in May. Zimbabwe failed to take any home advantage as Pakistan beat them by an innings in both the Tests.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, toured Sri Lanka in April for a two-match Test series. Playing against the island nation, Bangladesh did not pose any significant threat as they lost the series 0–1. However, now the visitors are quite excited with the presence of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the team.
