Shark Tank India 2: Namita Thapar reveals she went through IVF twice but was unsuccessful. She opened up about the reality show experience.
Entrepreneur Namita Thapar shared her ordeal of going through two unsuccessful IVF procedures while trying to conceive for the second time during the latest episode of Shark Tank India Season 2. This happened during a pitch made by budding entrepreneurs Chandan Prasad, Vikram Rajput and Sohan Sahoo. Their deal focused on the sensitive issue of infertility that women face, as the team reveals to have come up with the IUI Home Kit. Their product is designed to be used by infertile couples at home without having to go to the hospital. Shark Namita Thapar shared her personal story soon after hearing the pitch.
Thapar was 28 when she conceived naturally and embraced parenthood for the first time. However, after 3 to 4 years when she wished for a second child, the businessman faced fertility issues. She decided to go the IVF route not once but twice and had to undergo 25 injections which caused her immense physical and emotional pain. Thapar is glad she has children but sympathizes with those who try too hard but fail during the process.
“After two attempts I gave up and said I am happy with one child. But then a miracle happened and I got pregnant naturally,” she said. Even though everything was working in her favour, Thapar can’t seem to get over the vivid memory of the pain she went through during the medical procedure. It took almost a decade for him to speak publicly about this dark chapter in his life. Like many, she could not bring herself to address it as it is considered taboo in the society. Only 6 months ago, she consulted one of her therapists to see if she could go public about the issue. “People supported me and said it is private and why do you want to talk about it? But then I followed my heart and for the first time I talked about it and wrote about that special thing in my book.”
Thapar’s courageous move was appreciated by other sharks as well. During this, the entrepreneurs gave a demo of their product and told how they have to do their business. Sharks Namita and Vineeta make separate offers, while the other three seem desperate to offer a deal. Finally, the budding entrepreneurs decided to sign a deal with Namita Thapar.
