Hours after Sharad Pawar announced that he would quit as NCP president, nephew and party leader Ajit Pawar said the veteran politician has agreed to reconsider his decision.

“…we told him (Sharad Pawar) that the workers are very upset. We also told him that the party workers wanted him to continue as the party president along with being the working president. He said he will reconsider his decision and it will take 2-3 days time…” Ajit Pawar told reporters.

Ajit Pawar said everyone was surprised at the book launch of the veteran NCP leader announced his decision to step down as party chief – a position he held for 24 years.

We have to consider his age. All work will be done under his leadership.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis dismissed Pawar’s decision to leave it to “internal matters” of the NCP, adding that the BJP is monitoring the situation. “Pawar Sahab’s decision is NCP’s internal matter. It is his personal decision. He is a senior leader and he has decided something. There is a lot of churning going on within his party. So, for us to react on it Will not be right.
