The editorial also alleged that the BJP had a plan to split the NCP but failed after Sharad Pawar’s resignation… An NCP spokesperson said the party does not agree with what Sanjay Raut has written in the editorial

Shiv Sena mouthpiece Samana Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has been criticized for not appointing his successor for so many years. Also, the editorial praised the veteran leader for his ‘masterstroke’ of spoiling the BJP’s alleged game to split the party in Maharashtra.

Saamana called Pawar an ‘old tree’ who founded his own party after quitting the Congress but failed to build a leadership before announcing his retirement on May 2, which jolted the NCP.

The editorial also took a dig at the BJP that its plan to split the NCP failed after Pawar’s resignation, even though some party leaders were planning to join the saffron party. The same group of NCP leaders wanted Pawar to join hands with the BJP to circumvent the probe against him by the Enforcement Directorate, CBI, Income Tax Department. Instead, Pawar formed a committee of leaders tasked with finding the NCP’s successor.

The editorial said that the BJP wants to win elections, but not in a democratic way, so they are adopting tactics like investigation by central agencies against their opponents.

Samana The editorial said that though Pawar had to withdraw his resignation following strong protests from some party workers and leaders, his action stood the test of waters.

The editorial said, “Pawar has made it clear that those who want to go can go, we will not stop them.”

According to NCP spokesperson Mahesh Taapsee, “The NCP does not agree with what Sanjay Raut has written in the editorial about the NCP leadership. Pawar has made many leaders in the party. When he announced his resignation, the leaders who were with him on the dais are the inheritors of his thoughts.”
