All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s scintillating 96 not out helped Bangladesh take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series as they beat Zimbabwe by three wickets in their second One Day International at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.
Zimbabwe posted 240 for nine in their 50 overs, but the tourists chased down a total with five balls to spare, thanks to Shakib’s unbeaten half-century off 109 balls.
After being selected to bat by the home team, Wesley Madhevere (56) topped the score but found little support in the lower order, as left-arm pacer Shorful Islam (4–46) was the bowlers’ choice.
Shakib and Mohammad Saifuddin (28 not out) put on an unbeaten 69 in 10.4 overs for the eighth wicket to seal a 173 for seven in Bangladesh’s win.
The third ODI will be played at the same venue followed by three Twenty20 Internationals.
