Shahnawaz Dahani rued the missed opportunity in the PSL encounter.

Even the on-air commentators were ecstatic and could not stop themselves from laughing at the incident. Waqar Younis, one of the on-air commentators, said: “They are both at one end. He could have just run away. Why? Why? God,”

The opening match of this season’s PSL (Pakistan Super League) was nothing short of action as Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans by just one run. Chasing 176 for victory, Multan looked set to derail Lahore’s title defense in the first match of the tournament, with Mohammad Rizwan and David Miller needing 49 off the last five overs, but Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf had other plans as they both got dismissed. Set the batsmen and soaked up the pressure brilliantly to win the contest by 1 run.

Nevertheless, the match will also be remembered for a blunder by Pakistan’s Shahnawaz Dahani, who went into a laughing riot from the commentators after missing a routine run-out opportunity. This happened while the Qalandars were at bat. The Pak fast bowler was bowling his third over of the day which also happened to be the 17th over of the innings.

Lahore had taken their score to 130/4 after 16 overs when Dahani had a chance to give his team the fifth wicket, but it all went downhill. Raza bowled the first ball of the over down the pitch but his partner Hussain Talat dropped the wicket. He is more than halfway down when he realizes that Raza is not gone, and turns back.

Meanwhile, Dahani, who has enough time to collect the ball and run out, makes a complete mess. He picked up the ball and missed the stumps after deciding to throw the ball from a distance of a few yards. Dahani had enough time to run towards the stumps and dislodge them but chose to throw instead and paid the price.

Even the on-air commentators were ecstatic and could not stop themselves from laughing at the incident. Waqar Younis, one of the on-air commentators, said: “They are both at one end. He could just run. Why? Why? Lord,” while another said, “Oh that’s bad, that’s really bad,” followed by a burst of laughter on the mic. Raza then attacked Dahani for a six and a four.
