Shahid Afridi joins Quetta Gladiators for their farewell PSL season

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi will represent Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this season after playing for Multan Sultans last year.

England’s James Vince will also change from Sultan to Gladiators, the PSL said in a release on Thursday.

National T20 Cup hero Iftikhar Ahmed has also joined the Gladiators after being part of Islamabad United for the 2021 season. He has swapped teams with wicketkeeper/batsman Azam Khan, who has moved to Islamabad United from Quetta Gladiators, the statement said.

Earlier in June, Afridi expressed his desire to play his “last season” of the PSL with Quetta Gladiators.

Commenting on the switch, Afridi said he was “excited” to join the Quetta Gladiators.

“In my last PSL event, this will be my dream and after tasting success with Peshawar Zalmi in 2017 I want to sign with another PSL trophy,” he added.

A tournament is an event that “encourages and motivates a player to give his best”. Afridi said, “I will use the same motivation to help my team and perform in a way that helps us achieve our objectives.”

Meanwhile, Ahmed said moving on from Islamabad United was a “difficult decision”. “But looking at my future in T20 cricket involving the Pakistan team, I felt it was the best move,” he added. Joint management for their support.

He said he was “thrilled” to be reunited with Afridi in the Gladiators team. “The Quetta Gladiators include many of my contemporaries with whom I have played a lot of cricket,” he said, adding that the upcoming PSL was an “exciting and entertaining event”.

The first match will be held in Karachi on January 27 and Lahore on February 27 to host the final of the tournament.
