All records are made to be broken and Shahrukh Khan Starter Pathan is proving it right. Last year, when Yash-starrer KGF: Chapter 2 was being loved by the audience, everyone was ready to dismiss Bollywood. Now, with the release of Pathan, Shah Rukh Khan has not only reclaimed the throne of the most popular Indian star, but has also breathed life into the Hindi film industry. Pathan has emerged as the first blockbuster of 2023 to cross $100 million worldwide without a China release.
And now with its earnings reaching $103.6 million till Monday, it is the first Bollywood film to reach the $100 million milestone without releasing in China, Deadline further added. The Division sits at ₹526 crore ($64.2 million) gross in India and $39.4 million from overseas markets as of Monday. Already, the film directed by Siddharth Anand is the biggest Bollywood film of all time globally in the original Hindi language.
That’s where it gets a little confusing in terms of posted records, according to ‘Deadline’. Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’, both Bollywood titles ahead of ‘Pathan’ worldwide, but included over $100 million each from China, where the films were dubbed for local audiences. Similarly ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, which features Salman Khan, who also appears in ‘Pathan’ is still ahead globally, which was dubbed and released in China. No word for ‘Pathan’ has yet appeared on the window of China.
In India, notes ‘Deadline’, where box office earnings are measured in both gross and net figures, ‘Pathan’ producer Yash Raj Films reports that the film earned Rs 438.5 crore on Monday in Hindi-dubbed The last edition crossed the net. Yash-starrer ‘KGF 2’ (it was originally in Kannada language). Ahead of ‘Pathan’ on a pure basis is SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2’ with a lifetime collection of Rs 510 crore ($61.7 million) in Hindi (the film was originally in Telugu).
Whichever way you slice it, as ‘Deadline’ says, ‘Pathan’ has had an incredible journey.
