Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have now collaborated for Danki, the shooting of which is currently underway.
Sanjay Dutt’s Munna Bhai MBBS needs no introduction. Released in December 2013, the Rajkumar Hirani directorial was an instant hit and is widely loved by the audience till date. However, do you know that Sanjay Dutt is not yet Shahrukh Khan Murli Prasad Sharma aka Munna was Hirani’s first choice for the role.
A video of Shah Rukh Khan has resurfaced on social media in which the Pathan actor can be seen revealing why he could not be a part of Munna Bhai MBBS. “Munna Bhai, I could not do that because I was injured at that time. I had a spinal operation. I was not sure when I would be able to join,” Shah Rukh said.
Shah Rukh Khan further revealed how Rajkumar Hirani did not want to wait for long as it was the beginning of his career and said, “Raju was making his first film. I was shooting for Devdas when I signed Munna Bhai MBBS. When I got injured, Raju called me from London and asked, ‘When will you do it?’ With all due respect, Raju was not a big director. He was making a small film. It was difficult for him to wait for a star.”
In the same conversation, King Khan also praised Sanjay Dutt and said that he could never have played Munna the way Sanju Baba did. He said, ‘I have no regrets about it.
Earlier in an interview, Rajkumar Hirani had also talked about approaching Shah Rukh Khan for Munna Bhai MBBS. We also contacted Shah Rukh Khan. Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) seemed perfect for the part. This is because he has the physique where he can look like a ‘brother’. Plus, with his falling eyes and charming smile, he seems like his heart is in the right place. Now, I look back and can say that it was the right choice,” he was quoted as saying by dunyanews.tv.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have now collaborated for Danki, the shooting of which is currently underway. The film also stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. It will hit the theaters in December this year.
